1970 DODGE CHARGER 440 RT
History: Purchased as is 5 years ago in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Highly sought after NUMBERS MATCHING 1970 CHARGER 440 RT. This is a tight car with no rattles. Runs smooth and strong.
Body: Straight sheet metal. Nice paint with black stripe on rear deck. Glass is good and windows work well. Green colour is darker than original. Doors open and close nicely. Gaps are quite good. Light undercoating.
Frame/Chassis/Suspension: Stock components – gas shocks in the front and coils over shocks in the rear.
Engine: Numbers matching 440 CID (last 6 digits match the VIN – have photos including the fender tag). Does not use oil. Period correct Holley carb with chrome valve covers and frame-mounted fuel pump. Heads were rebuilt – likely to accommodate unleaded fuel. Factory optional heavy duty rad was rebuilt.
Transmission: Period correct 727 3 speed automatic.
Differential: Likely original with unknown gears. Runs at 3500 rpm at 100 km per hour.
Exhaust: Dual aluminized steel with cross over and replica chrome tips. Stock manifolds with Flowmaster mufflers.
Brakes: Front disc and rear drum. No pulls.
Wheels: Magnum 500 replica of originals.
Tires: Fronts are 235 70R 15 and 275 60R 15 in the rear.
Interior: Original or period correct.
Extras included: None.
Options and Special Features: Power steering, power brakes and power windows. Factory 8 track player. Added frame mounted trailer tie downs. Factory cruise control (not hooked up). RT signal indicators in the hood.
Known issues: Engine oil and transmission fluid sweat with no drips on the floor. You can hear the frame mounted fuel pump (an in-tank unit would help). Typical bit of wind noise at highway speeds. Passes the magnet test except for two small areas on both rockers where the factory welds are (below bottom corner of doors). Very light orange peel only in a few places – could use a polish – all top areas are nice and flat. Roof vinyl lifting just a bit at the RH bottom A pillar. Door jams (original green) do not match exterior colour. RH door panel has a few small tears and some wrinkles in the vinyl.
Reason for selling: Not driving it.
